 (August, 2000) Prime Inc. Operator Marilyn "Candy" Elliott was recently recognized by the Truckload Carriers Association as a "Highway Angel." The Highway Angel Program, introduced by the Truckload Carriers Association and sponsored by Volvo Trucks North America and Petro Stopping Centers, is an ongoing effort to help recognize driver professionalism and to elevate the public's awareness of and appreciation for outstanding drivers in the trucking industry.
Elliott's kindness and quick action at a T A Truck Stop in Denver, Colorado, won her the award. She came to the rescue of a fellow truck driver having a heart attack. Elliott immediately began CPR on the driver once he had stopped breathing. Her skill and willingness to get involved are said to have saved the driver's life.
In honor of her performance of a good deed while on the job, Elliott received a lapel pin, patch and certificate. The certificate recognizes Elliott's act of kindness, honors her for making a positive difference in the lives of the people with whom she shares the road, and thanks her for her dedication as a professional, safe and courteous truck driver.
Elliott, a former Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), was commended by Prime and the Missouri State Highway Patrol in 1999 for another act of kindness --- providing medical assistance to multiple victims of a serious accident. "We take great pride as a company in being fortunate enough to have such safety-conscious, kind-hearted individuals in our midst," says Don Lacy, Prime's Director of Safety and Recruiting.
