SERVICE AND SAFETY BONUSES PAID TO PRIME DRIVERS

Starting on January 4, 2002, Prime drivers earn bonuses for on-time service and safety during a rolling 13-week period. These bonuses are based on the mileage shown on the trip documents that a driver must submit each week within 5 days of completing a trip. The service bonus follows the lead seat of a truck. The safety bonus follows the lead seat for out-of-service incidents. In the case of accidents, it follows the driver responsible.

In order to qualify for the service bonus, a driver must have had no driver-related service failures in the previous 13 weeks. For the safety bonus, a driver must have had no driver-preventable accidents and no out-of-service incidents during a rolling 13-week period.

Service and safety bonuses are paid at the same rate. Solos are paid 5 cents per mile for every mile they run each week above 2,400 miles per week, to a maximum of $25 per week. For example, a driver running 2700 miles, would be paid $15 (300 miles x 5 cents). Teams are paid 2.5 cents per mile for mileage over 4,000 each week. So a team running 4700 miles per week would earn $17.50 (700 x 2.5 cents).
